Thanksgiving

Well, everything is over and done with. I moved in at my daughter's house on November 14th but Watson and I had been living there for a few days before that. The movers were good and professional. They started right at 8 AM and were done by 10:30. Total cost of the move was $212. I had moved so much stuff myself that only the big furniture pieces remained.

Jill was a big help in getting the old house totally empty and cleaned out.  The storage unit is full...all the way to the door.The garage is full. The basement is full...only a path through the stuff. The house is full but functional. I think we have redefined "cozy". We got out of the house with a day to spare.

Closing day was last Tuesday and that went off without a hitch. I am "homeless" now...sort of. Sharing a small house with Jill is not a problem. We are managing fine. I go to Florida for a week and then Jill will be moving to Columbia in about a week or so after I get back.

The cats are loving this arrangement. Watson is twelve years old but is behaving like he is half his age. Beatrix is enjoying all the new stuff to explore. They are playing all day and half the night.  Bea can jump over Watson so he has become sort of a toy in her mind. Watson marvels at how she can climb up on things. He is teaching her all sorts of cat things and she is a quick learner. They roll and tumble across the floor and come up with tails in the air and having a jolly time.

We had a nice Thanksgiving. No huge piles of food and no leftovers! We took a walk around the park. The weather was nice. We took a walk down to Paddy Malone's a couple nights ago...our local bar is the city's Irish pub. We had a good time.  We might get our first snowflakes this week.

Packing, selling and hauling it out

I have been very busy packing boxes and hauling them to my storage unit and to Jill's house. I think I have the storage unit filled up with as many boxes as I dare put in there since I also have to put some furniture in as well. We have been trying to figure out the best way to load things into Jill's. My moving day is November 14th but she can't move up to Columbia until December 20th at the earliest so we have to get my stuff in while her stuff is still there and then later move her out and my stuff where it belongs.  Nothing is easy.

I have been selling stuff. The china hutch and buffet and my bedroom set are gone and some other things. I still have a lot of things left to sell and some things at Jill's can be sold. I'm selling stuff for next to nothing but it has to go so anything I get is better than giving it away or to Salvation Army. I have plenty to take to Goodwill and Salvation Army and I took a huge load over today.  My problem is that I keep running out of boxes.

Today I had folks drive from Columbia -- 60+ miles round trip -- to buy just a few things that I had and then this evening another bunch made the same trip and bought ealmost all that Jill had to sell.
